Star Trek Schedule Released for SDCC

Hallmark is offering a convention exclusive Star Trek U.S.S. Enterprise Starship Keepsake Ornament at their booth. The 2016 Star Trek Keepsake Ornament collection and the Star Trek itty bittys® Collector Set will be available at Nerd HQ in the Children’s Museum. They will have an itty bitty exclusive button giveaway at Nerd HQ, as well as unveil the new Star Trek Squeely.

July 2016: A Big Month for Hallmark and Star Trek

July is always a huge month for Hallmark with their annual release of ornaments but 2016 seems to have more crammed in it than normal.

This is what we have to look toward to…

July 1st-20th

Preorders are all over eBay for the SDCC exclusive Enterprise ornament from the pilot episode of the original Star Trek series. There are a wide range of asking prices but $120 seems to be a common price tag.

July 9th

Hallmark’s Ornament Premiere! Star Trek fans can look forward to three ornaments that are making their debut.

San Diego Comic-Con sneak preview from 6:00-9:00 P.S.T. Guests will get their first looks at Hallmark’s 2017 Star Trek line-up.

July 21st-24th

San Diego Comic-Con officially opens to the public. The convention exclusive Enterprise will be available in limited quantities each day. Expect a flood of ornaments on eBay and prices to drop under the preorder costs. Although it is a covention exclusive ornament, Hallmark has announced it will be available at two additional conventions later in 2016.

July 22nd

Star Trek Beyond premieres and with it the possibilities of future Star Trek ornaments.

Preorders are beginning to show up with regularity on eBay for the 2016 Enterprise that premieres at the San Diego Comic-Con from July 20-24.

Current prices range from a Buy-It-Now on April 27th for $164.99 after shipping to an winning auction bid of $101.85 including delivery on June 20th. Most prices seem to be running around $120-$130 delivered.

Once the public actually has their hands on these ornaments expect prices to drop a little in the short term with a bounce in value next year.

No word yet on how many will be produced in this limited run. It is scheduled to be available at two other conventions later this year.

Multiple convention releases is something that Hallmark has not done in the past with the same ornament but even with higher availability, the original Enterprise as a visual “hallmark” of the series, will still prove to be long sought after in the coming years.

Though the logo simply says “Star Trek,” Variety has learned that the series will have a more specific title to be unveiled at a later date.

Creators

Brian Fuller, Executive Producer and Showrunner was the writer for “Star Trek: Deep Space Nine” and “Star Trek: Voyager”.

Nicholas Meyer, Consulting Producer and Writer was director of “Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan”, screenwriter of “Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home, co-writer and director of “Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country”.

Alex Kurtzman, Executive Producer was co-writer and executive producer of “Star Trek” (2009) and co-writer and producer of “Star Trek Into Darkness” (2013).

Rod Roddenberry, Executive Producer is the son of the Great Bird of the Galaxy.

Joe Menosky, Writer was a writer or co-writer on 56 hours of “Star Trek: The Next Generation,” “Star Trek: Deep Space Nine” and “Star Trek: Voyager”.

Kirsten Beyer, Writer launched a new series of Star Trek novels depicting the returns to the Alpha Quadrant of Starfleet admiral Kathryn Janeway, Voyager captain Chakotay, Voyager first officer Tom Paris, Voyager security officer Harry Kim, U.S.S. Galen chief medical officer The Doctor, fleet chief engineer B’Elanna Torres and Starfleet Academy professor Seven of Nine.

“I think it’s going to be a different Star Trek. And I think that is probably good, because the thing that mainly troubles me about Star Trek is the fear of it being maybe re-treads of itself. Bryan [Fuller] has ideas, some of which I’ve heard, that are innovative and different. Different is what got me interested.

“The Undiscovered Country—according to Bryan [Fuller]—is a real sort of taking off point, or touchstone for how I guess he’s thinking about the direction of the new show. I don’t want to be misquoted and I don’t want to misquote him, but he’s fond of that film. Let’s put it that way. -Nicholas Meyer

“I think we will be seeing lots of crews in the story. One of the things that is exciting for me is that we are telling a “Star Trek” story in a modern way. We’re telling a 13-chapter story in this first season. It’s nice to be able to dig deep into things that would have been breezed passed if we were doing episodic and had to contain a story to an episode.

“It’s going to be weekly. And what it does allow us is, we are not subject to broadcast standards and practices. So we can have profanity if we choose — not that I want to see a “Star Trek” with lots of profanity. But we can certainly be more graphic than you would on broadcast network television.” -Bryan Fuller

Where is the U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701-B?

Hallmark has released all but one of the major Enterprise ornaments but how long until we get the U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701-B?

The NX-01 was released in 2002. A version of the famous original Enterprise (NCC-1701) was released in 1991, 1995 (mini), 1996, 2006 and two versions in 2016. 2005 gave us the NCC-1701-A. 2015 saw the release of the NCC-1701-C from Yesterday’s Enterprise. The Next Generation’s NCC-1701-D was first released in 1993 and followed twife in 1995 (mini) and 2012. The NCC-1701-E from First Contact was released in 1998 and again in 2001 (mini). The Star Trek series was “rebooted” when the film series offered up an alternate timeline and an alternate Enterprise. An ornament soon followed in 2010 to show off this new Enterprise.

Hallmark even gave us the unlikely release of a future’s version of the Enterprise from the last episode of the Next Generation series. The 2007 release has the familiar NCC-1701-D from the series but now sports a third nacelle.

Hopefully on July 20, 2016 we hear news of the NCC-1701-B’s 2017 release.

Star Trek: Mission New York – September 2-4, 2016

Lynn Norton Gives Insight on Star Trek Ornaments

After 50 years, the distinctive image of the USS Enterprise has come to serve not only as home for hundreds of explorers of the future but also as an iconic symbol of the Star Trek universe and all that represents to its fans. For more than half that time, sculptor Lynn Norton has devoted uncounted hours to interpreting incarnations of the beloved starship, creating Keepsake Ornaments for Hallmark that bring fans’ favorite memories and fantastic moments to Christmas trees each year (and admittedly to collectible displays all year long for many people).

As many fans’ thoughts turn to decorating for the holidays, Lynn shares his thoughts not just on his appreciation for starship designers but his own joy in helping fans celebrate with ornaments of the good ol’ NCC-1701 — and bloody A, C, D and E (just not B).

“I consider the ships I have sculpted to be like characters rather than objects,” he says. “Each is recognizable, and almost as specific as a human face. I’m looking at them as a fan, of course — I’ve been watching since the first broadcast—but also as a sculptor who appreciates their beauty and qualities as icons.”
