The Henry Ford Museum Opens Permanent Hallmark Ornament Display

The Henry Ford Museum recently opened up a permanent Hallmark ornament display. The collection originally belonged to The Party Shop in Warsaw, Indiana. After being acquired by the Henry Ford, the museum displayed 110 ornaments during the 2019 holidays which included the 1991 Enterprise. Today, you can see the entire collection of thousands of Hallmark ornaments on display in Dearborn, Michigan.

Henry Ford Museum Now Home to 6,600 Hallmark Ornaments

Starting Monday and lasting through the holidays, the Dearborn museum will be displaying 110 samples of a huge, new collection of Hallmark Keepsake ornaments acquired from a Hallmark retailer in the Midwest.

There are 6,600 ornaments altogether. And next year, the Henry Ford Museum wants to begin showing all of them on a seasonal basis.

“Our intention is to display all of them,” said Kate Morland, Exhibits Manager at The Henry Ford. “We’re still coming up with what the best display methods would be with this volume.”

“We love being in this community for years and years and years, but we made the tough decision that it’s time to retire,” said David Hamrick, curator of the Hallmark Keepsake Ornament Museum.

Retirement means that The Party Shop at 3418 Lake City Highway in Warsaw will close in three to four weeks. The Party Shop has housed the ornament museum since 1996.

“So, right now, we’ve actually had two different national museums that have contacted us inquiring about possibly acquiring the collection,” Hamrick said. “Yeah, honestly, I don’t see it staying here in Kosciusko County, but stranger things have happened, I guess.”

The challenge now is to keep the collection intact, keep it available to the public after the store closes and keep the memories flowing.

“This priceless collection is on display in over 30 oak cabins with glass fronts. It’s helpful to see the ornaments in a price guide, but when you can actually see every ornament made in person it is amazing. One of the first things you’ll see when you start with the early years 1973-1979 is that the vast majority of the ornaments are glass balls and the amount of designs offered was minimal. Over the last couple of years there have been over 300 designs per year.

The Party Shop does NOT sell any of the ornaments within the Museum. We do have another room full of other Back Issue Hallmark Ornaments in stock from present to 1973. We also have a variety of other Hallmark collectibles, from Merry Miniatures, Miniature Ornaments, puzzles & more. If we do not have an ornament you are looking for, we will try to find it for you.
