2016 Dream Book

image

The 2016 Dream Book is available to view at hallmark.com and in stores today, May 14, 2016. We get a look the Star Trek 50th Anniversary To Boldly Go tabletop display.  It has come a long way since last year’s artist’s rendition preview.

Unfortunately, at under 6″ tall and less than 7 1/2″ wide, it’s whopping $74.95 asking price may have even the biggest Star Trek fans second guessing their fandom.

image

We also get looks at the “Pilot Version” of the U.S.S. Enterprise and Kirk from the scene “The Man Trap”. Both of these are the same as we were previewed last July.

As for Chekov…

“Although this ornament is not on the list, Star Trek’s website does advise its fans that it will be available at the beginning of the Keepsake Ornament Premiere.”

Lynn Norton…“This is the one that I really went out of my way to make as accurate as possible. I based it on the original shooting model with its larger bridge dome, larger deflector dish and nacelle features as a tribute to the series’ 50th anniversary. Assuming it’s able to maintain all of its details in final production, it’s more accurate than anything I’ve done before.

“One thing to note in the progression of all of Hallmark’s Star Trek ornaments. People will ask why ornaments are so much better looking now than in the past. Some of that is owed to advancements in technology. Some of that comes from the learning curve for me, and some is the learning curve for the manufacturer and mold makers. Twenty-five years ago when we started making the Enterprise, to that point we had been making cute, fuzzy bunnies and such. Now, we’re known for the work that we do on all designs. Because of my technical background and my background as an engraver, I was pushing the limits of what I understood the limits of the manufacturing process to be. And we keep getting better every year.” – See more at: http://www.startrek.com/article/hallmark-sculptor-lynn-norton-on-the-storied-history-of-trek-keepsake-ornaments?ecid=PCID-2617611&pa=affcj#sthash.91Bd8ESX.dpuf

79) 2016 STAR TREK™ 50th Anniversary To Boldly Go Tabletop Decoration With Light and Sound

image

50 years ago this year, Captain Kirk and his crew first appeared on small screens across America. The interstellar adventures of the Starship Enterprise quickly captivated audiences, turning the show into an iconic piece of television history. Press the button on the ornament to illuminate the scene and hear dialogue from the original Star Trek TV series!

Unfortunately, this piece was scarce when it was released at the October 1st Ornament Debut. I was the first one in the door and there were none to be had except for those that had reserved the precious few ahead of time.

I probably should’ve sprung for the Death Star Tree Topper as an investment purchase but that is a lot to ask of a Trek fan.
