Equipment: Hallmark U.S.S. Vengeance Keepsake Ornament Review
The U.S.S. Vengeance is molded in a charcoal grey color which is great contrast for the blue LED lights. Speaking of the lights, the U.S.S. Vengeance is illuminated on the front and back of each nacelle, the deflector dish and the impulse engines at the rear of the saucer section. Equipment: Hallmark 50th Anniversary U.S.S. Enterprise Keepsake Ornament
This version of the U.S.S. Enterprise is made from the same mold that was used for the SDCC exclusive U.S.S. Enterprise. The version from San Diego was a reproduction of the Enterprise that was used in the pilot episode, “The Cage,” which means it has “points” on nacelle domes. The sculpture of the Franklin is spot on. I am always amazed just how much detail can be poured into a small ornament. The U.S.S. Franklin NX-326 measures 3.5″ W x 1.1″ H x 5.15″ D. 2017 San Diego Comic-Con Begins Today

San Diego Comic-Con begins tonight with a sneak preview beginning at 6:00 pm local time. No word if we will get sneak previews of 2018 ornaments but we do know that the Enterprise C convention exclusive ornament will be available.

2018 Predictions: Star Trek Anniversaries and Possible Ornaments

The 2017 Hallmark Star Trek Ornaments are here and San Diego Comic-Con is next week which means we may get 2018 ornament previews. For years SDCC was the platform for Hallmark to sneak preview the next year’s releases. In 2016, Hallmark did not preview Star Trek ornaments at SDCC because their booth was restricted to Star Wars products ending an annual July tradition. Well, this year Hallmark has two booths at the San Diego convention, one dedicated to Star Wars and another one for everything else. Will we get 2018 previews? We will know by mid next week.

Hallmark has celebrated Star Trek’s anniversaries over the years with commemorative ornaments. It began in 1991 with Hallmark’s very first Star Trek Ornament, the 25th Anniversary U.S.S. Enterprise.

The Enterprise was honored again 5 years later for the 30th Anniversary…

…and for the 40th…

…and the 50th…

…twice.

The 50th actually brought a number of ornaments celebrating the golden anniversary and 2017 gave us a 30th Anniversary of The Next Generation.

It was just five years ago that we celebrated Next Generation’s 25th with their own salute to the Enterprise.

So what might we look forward to in 2018 as far as anniversaries? Star Trek: The Animated Series has never been recognized with an ornament and the cartoon celebrates its 45th Anniversary in 2018 which still makes it an unlikely candidate.  Here’s hoping for an ornament in 2023 for its 50th!

Deep Space Nine celebrates its 25th next year which makes it very likely for 2018. We already had a DS9 Space Station in 2001 so a future ornament would most likely resemble this year’s Picard/Data ornament. Any scene representing DS9 would hopefully include characters we haven’t seen yet like Odo and Quark.

Star Trek: Discovery premieres this fall, would a 2018 ornament be too soon? I expect CBS will do everything they can to promote the series which will have limited viewership due to its subscription based programming.

Kevin Dilmore
Ever since his mom taught him to read at age 2, Kevin has loved to figure out how stories work so he could make up his own to tell-usually ones with spaceships, aliens and weird science stuff. In his career, he has told stories with novels, children’s books, screenplays, newspaper articles and more, including Hallmark greeting cards and Keepsake Ornaments. Kevin grew up in central Kansas and graduated from the University of Kansas. He’s very happy to hear about your favorite stories or tell you about his.

Kevin Dilmore is a Kansas-based writer of many Star Trek novels and short stories, specifically in the Star Trek: Starfleet Corps of Engineers series. He often collaborates with Dayton Ward.

In 1997, he began writing for the Star Trek: Communicator. Before working there, he was a newspaper reporter and editor for almost fifteen years on a community newspaper in Kansas.

“Death Wish” Episode Turns Voyager Into Christmas Ornament

“Death Wish” is the 18th episode of the second season of the  Star Trek: Voyager. The episode originally aired on February 19, 1996 and fans were treated to Q turning the starship Voyager into a Christmas ornament.

Unfortunately, we never got to see the ship from the outside hanging on the Christmas tree but we did get to see from the perspective of the crew out Voyager’s main viewscreen.

We see nearby “planetary” ornaments and even Q himself as he holds a dangling Voyager and peers inside.

At the time of its February airing, Hallmark had not yet released a Voyager ornament. Fans would only have to wait until Christmas of that same year to see what Q saw.
