How Does Hallmark’s ‘The Keeper’ Stack Up Against Star Trek: The Experience’s Talosian?

Hallmark’s The Keeper ornament has a clear height advantage, towering nearly 3/4” above his competitor. What Star Trek: The Experience’s Talosian lacks in height is made up in weight. The Talosian weighs in at a hefty five ounces more than the rookie upstart.

Ring the bell, already!

ROUND 1 (Eye hook placement)

An eye hook is fastened to the back of the Talosian’s neck and vanishes when the ornament is observed head on. A devastating hook to The Keeper’s head gives Talosian the first round.
Round 1 scoring: Talosian: 10, The Keeper: 9

ROUND 2 (Head details)

The head of the Talosian has a more bulbous shape and a closer depiction of what was on screen. Unfortunately, it is sloppily executed. In contrast, The Keeper’s less accurate oval shape is very clean and defined. After trading head shots, The Keeper wins the second round.
Round 2 scoring: Talosian: 9, The Keeper: 10

ROUND 3 (Necklace details)

Upon close inspection of the necklace, the Talosian’s paint technique is jarring. In contrast, The Keeper has clean, crisp lines and colors. Hallmark delivers an uppercut when it comes to the paint details.
Round 3 scoring: Talosian: 9, The Keeper: 10

ROUND 4 (Hand details)

The Keeper gets knocked to the canvas by a fierce left-right combination from the Talosian. The Keeper struggles to pull himself up off the mat due to his lack of hands.
Round 4 scoring: Talosian: 10, The Keeper: 8

ROUND 5 (Robe details)

The Talosian’s robe is very rudimentary. The Keeper sports the finest detail of any Star Trek ornament to date. This seemingly new manufacturing technique gives this robe its gorgeous texture. “DOWN GOES TALOSIAN! DOWN GOES TALOSION!”
Round 5: The Keeper delivers a knockout punch to the Talosian!

Star Trek’s larger-than-life commander of the “U.S.S. Enterprise” now can occupy the smallest corner of your holiday display. With a dynamic pose that looks ready to face any challenge, this Captain Kirk miniature Christmas tree ornament captures the action of the original “Star Trek” series.
Pros: Easily the stronger of the two 2023 miniature releases, this tiny ornament packs impressive detail—including rank insignias on the sleeves—making it a remarkable feat of miniaturization.
Cons: At its core, it’s essentially a scaled-down version of the 2010 Legends Kirk, offering little new beyond the size reduction.

Additional information:
If the final frontier is space, this version of Starfleet’s 23rd-Century flagship takes up very little of it. This miniature Christmas tree ornament offers Star Trek’s iconic “U.S.S. Enterprise” in a size that’s right for even the tiniest tree.
Pros: Hallmark is thoughtfully offering options for collectors with mini tree displays, making it easier to enjoy Star Trek ornaments in smaller spaces.
Cons: While the 2001 Deep Space Nine station cleverly integrated mini ornaments into a larger display, these minis currently lack a dedicated purpose or stand, making them feel somewhat incomplete. A Delta-shaped display stand for mini ornaments would elevate their appeal and functionality—now that would be something to talk about!

“Can I teach you a lesson?” If you hear that from Badgey, the malfunctioning tutor hologram onboard the “U.S.S. Cerritos,” prepare to learn about matters of life or death! This set of two Christmas tree ornaments shows the mascot of the Rutherford Training Beta 2.5 program in his Nice as well as Naughty personas as seen on “Star Trek: Lower Decks.”
Pros: Two Badgeys in one box—each independent to reflect your mood! Hallmark nailed the jump into 3D with these charming little characters, bringing a fresh, playful energy to the collection.
Cons: Unfortunately, even the slightest tremor (or a nudge) will knock them over if you display them standing.

Immerse yourself in the 23rd Century with this Starship Enterprise tabletop decoration that features dynamic light shows to accompany sound effects and dialogue from fan-favorite moments of the original “Star Trek” television series. At the press of a button, experience synchronized performances of scenes from five different episodes of “Star Trek.” Then with the flick of a switch, the decoration turns any room into the bridge of the “U.S.S. Enterprise” with a suite of environmental sound effects and light displays (power adapter included).
Pros: A fantastic larger-scale Enterprise perfect for year-round display. The clear, loud sound effects combined with spectacular lighting make it a centerpiece any Star Trek fan would be proud to showcase.
Cons: The “umbilical cord” connecting the ship to the base can feel a bit distracting at first glance. A shorter connection—bringing the Enterprise closer to the base—might have offered a cleaner, more elegant appearance.

Stardate 46125.3—Displaced 75 years into the future as the result of a shuttle accident, Captain Montgomery Scott finds himself aboard a “U.S.S. Enterprise” that’s vastly different from the ship he knew as a Starfleet chief engineer. This Christmas tree ornament captures a conversation between Scotty and Captain Jean-Luc Picard as they reminisce about old ships in the “Star Trek: The Next Generation” episode “Relics” (battery-operated).
Pros: Bringing together an Original Series and a Next Generation character on one ornament is a delightful nod to the episode’s legacy—just as exciting now as it was 31 years ago when Relics first aired. It feels like a special bonus for fans across generations.
Cons: Up close, the likenesses lean a bit toward the cartoonish side, which may detract from the otherwise heartfelt tribute.
