Captain Stuart Foley posted a video showing off a 2023 The Hand of Apollo ornament that is currently in stores. Take a quick look to hear his thoughts and see it in action.
I’ll offer one comment on the video. We went with the grommet over something battery powered because we felt it would best replicate the glow of Apollo’s hand as seen in the episode. What he’s not acknowledging is the space required for the electronics we would need to make it battery powered. Rigging the sculpt internally with the battery housing and the wiring and the lighting to get it to look how it does would have been really tough to do (not to mention expensive for the buyer) and still have the hand appear translucent. For what it’s worth.
No complaints here. The Hand of Apollo is one of my favorite Trek ornaments ever. Very clever design and well executed. How long did it take to find a good space hand color?
Our art director is terrific about making sure we get the right colors on our Star Trek ornaments. I’m betting it was not a problem for him to match the remastered version of the big, giant hand. You should see the hoops he’s jumping through to get the color correct on [REDACTED] for 2024!
