Price Increases Due to New Tariffs

Hallmark has listed the 2025 ornaments online and all the Star Trek ornament pricing has increased 25% from those that were listed in the 2025 Dream Book.

Official Hallmark announcement added. (Thank you Gordon for posting this in the comments)

If you were all in on the eight Trek ornaments this year, expect to pay $63.00 more than the prices in the Dream Book.

Let me say first, this is based on my personal knowledge and experience. I’ve been collecting since 1995. I have not seen or heard of them doing this sort of thing like this. There was once a misprint on a small mailer about limited quantity ornaments. And then they sent out an email. Thus if we employ the scientific principle, all things being equal, the simplest answer must be the truth, paraphrasing, then the tariffs are the culprit. Bc there is nothing that has changed, dramatically, concerning prices in the US but the tariffs.

also another thought, they may have communicated at times with the stores and maybe even some resellers pricing changes but again, not like this to the public to my knowledge.

Since this isn’t a science experiment, the ” Scientific Principle ” is irrelevant. Many Ornaments were in country many weeks ago and countries like Sri Lanka and Thailand ( where many of the ornaments are made ) are not being hit with the tariffs China is…in fact, Trump suspended tariffs until July for almost everyone that makes Hallmark ornaments but China. Hallmark is taking a big risk, considering most people on the internet i am seeing are angry with Hallmark for the price increases and are stating they won’t buy ornaments at all this year ( or will buy less ). Hallmark may be left with A LOT OF ornaments come December 26th…

Sri Lanka had a 44% tariff and Thailand with 36% imposed in April. There has been a lot of on again, off again the last couple of months so I am not sure if they are still active or at what rates.

That was my point-Trump paused most tariffs until July on countries other than China…so those tariffs are irrelevant to the price increases Hallmark is imposing.

Donald trump is making very hard for people to afford even hallmark Christmas ornaments to enjoy this holiday season.

These ornaments for 2025 are expensive enough before the 20% increase.

As a collector for many, many years I will not be buying any this year.

I just can’t afford this nor support the stranglehold to the American people.

Hallmark ornaments are NOT made in the USA ! What are you talking about ? Try looking at ANY Hallmark ornament box and it will tell you what country it was made in. China, Thailand, Sri Lanka, among others…Please refrain from making comments that show your ignorance on the subject.

I am NEITHER-Trumps tariffs are seriously affecting businesses, but as i have stated elsewhere in this discussion, MANY ornaments were already in country in store backrooms when Trump began talking tariffs and many are made in countries other than China. So it looks more like Hallmark is making a cash grab and using the tariffs as an excuse. Even if they were telling the truth, it is a major risk to increase prices 25% on an item that 1) isn’t a necessity, 2) is already perceived as expensive AND 3) will become much less valuable ( or saleable ) come December 26th…

I am a Hallmark Club Member-last week Hallmark sent out an E-mail stating they were having to ” adjust ” prices on some merchandise due to the current economic climate. If you go to Hallmark.com you will find all ornament prices are 25% HIGHER over what they were in the Wish list book. I would point out that according to a Store Manager i know, many ornaments were ALREADY in store backrooms BEFORE the tarriffs were mentioned and i would also point out many ornaments are now manufactured in Sri Lanka and Thailand which are not being hit with the tarriffs that China is facing.

I just received a phone call from my local Hallmark store where I had put my dream book list together. Everything on the list has gone up at least 25% because of tariffs. I will not be buying the ornaments. I’m disgusted. The tariff increase is being passed off to the US consumer. Well this consumer is having no part of it.

I can tell you that Sri Lanka and Thailand both have been given increased tariff percentages. I think it was 10% for Sri Lanka and 36% for Thailand. I work for a franchise Hallmark of 58 stores and the only ornaments we have received were the 18 or so that we get every January and 1 for May 4th. The increase on these ornaments now, is to ensure that we will be able to pay for the shipping of incoming ornaments and future purchase of ornaments. With this type of situation, a business has to prepare itself now in order to ensure the future shipment for our customers and all shipments after.

Considering Hallmark is adding 25% across the board for all ornaments RIGHT NOW, it’s ridiculous when you consider that the tariffs aren’t very high on Sri Lanka or Thailand compared to China…and NO tariffs are being charged until July ( well according to Trump in early April when he said he was pausing them for 90 days ). Bottom line, Hallmark is taking a grave risk increasing prices so much and pissing off customers when we could be sliding into a recession. I can see things going badly with stores stuck marking down a significant portion of their ornaments after Christmas to try and get rid of them.

I do not have any firsthand knowledge but some possibilities…
      1) Stores have inventory for displays but not stock. Stock will cost more.
      2) Some stores have stock and others do not and they have to keep uniform prices nationwide.
      3) All stores have some stock but a Q3 resupply will cost more and they are keeping uniform prices for the year.
      4) Ornaments are in the country but didn’t make the deadline.

I know from my personal employment we have been paying 5%-30% more since April on most of our product.

No. Look at any Hallmark ornament box and it will tell you where it was manufactured…NONE are made in the U.S., nor have they been for many years….

My guess would be the 1999 U.S.S. Enterprise Stamp. Since it is a U.S. stamp, only seems logical that it was made in the U.S.

The fact that all Hallmark ornaments are sourced and manufactured in the United States – this is insane. And yes – they are made in the Hallmark Ornament Factory in Kansas City, MO.

Hallmark Employees are being told to tell everyone that the increases are due to the Economic Climate – yet everything that Hallmark has is sourced and manufactured in the United States. Just another reason to quit buying Hallmark – they’re already outrageously priced!

      Sherri,

The Ornament boxes clearly state where the ornament is made and they are not made in the United States. When the Cad Bane ornaments were recalled last year, Hallmark clearly stated it was due to a poor paint application in Sri Lanka, where the ornaments were made. And it wasn’t just employees, club member like myself were sent an E-mail last week.

This is the E-mail they sent out. Note they do say they manufacture 75% of products in Kansas City but it is the ornaments ( manufactured overseas ) that are going up in price.

      Keepsake Ornament Club

Hallmark’s dedication to helping you celebrate life’s meaningful moments remains our focus, especially as we look toward the holidays. We are committed to maintaining fair pricing across our various product lines and are fortunate to manufacture 75% of our products in our Kansas-based manufacturing facilities. Some categories, like ornaments, are disproportionately impacted by the current economic climate. As a result, we’ve made the necessary decision to adjust pricing of our Keepsake Ornament product line, effective Friday, May 2. Wish List submissions Starting tomorrow, Friday, May 2, you will be able to browse the full 2025 Keepsake Ornament collection on Hallmark.com and submit your online Wish List. If you have already submitted your Wish List in store, the new pricing will be reflected at pickup and you may adjust your order at that time. We’re so grateful you’re a part of our Keepsake Ornament Club family. You continue to inspire us, and we always look forward to sharing the holiday season with you.

When the Hallmark ornaments have been in America BEFORE the tariffs why would tariffs affect the prices? Sounds like Hallmark greed exploiting the foolishness of customers to me.

I certainly do not recall receiving any type of notification about the ornament price increases. And, I very much object to Hallmark NOT honoring the Wishbook prices. The company should have absorbed any additional costs, whether from tariffs or other causes, as a transition. With foreknowledge that tariffs were imminent, the Wishbook could have been printed without prices. I love Hallmark ornaments but will now be more choosy in my selections.

This is profiteering at best. Yes, Tariffs may have an impact, however tariffs are based on cost of good produced and not what the price of the product on the shelf. So… There’s high profit margin on the product and tariff increases should be based on manufacturing. i.e. a $50 product probably costs $10 to make. If there is a 25% tariff, then the cost increase should be $2.50, yet they are hiking the price to $62 which is an increase of $12. Greed at it’s best while trying to leverage Tariff as the culprit. Shame on you Hallmark!!!

MOSTLY all the ornaments Hallmark is selling now were in this country before President Trump initiated any Tarrifs on China. These ornaments were designed a year earlier and get shipped into the country at the beginning of the year so they can arrive at local stores in June to get ready for their July release. Hallmark is the only store I have seen that is adding on to their prices at the rate they are-30% increase. I have seen other stores add a $1 or $2 on the price of a shirt, but Hallmark is being ridiculous! I am a Platinum Rewards member, and buy lots of ornaments every year, but this year I will only buy a few “must Have” ornaments. If Hallmark was getting hit with tariffs, it is certainly much less than what they are passing on to the consumer. And as some have stated earlier, they should absorb the increases. Who will really be hurt are the “local” Hallmark store owners who will see a big decrease in sales this year.
