Famous Words: “…Jim, I’m a doctor- not a bricklayer, or a nursemaid, or a….”
Although fond of describing himself as “just a simple, old-fashioned country doctor,” McCoy commands one of the most sophisticated medical facilities in all of Starfleet. The good doctor (DeForest Kelly) appeared in the original STAR TREK™ TV program and in feature films.

Pros: Surprisingly decent likeness for a 1997 sculpt—McCoy is instantly recognizable, right down to his no-nonsense expression.
Cons: Permanently placing the good doctor mid-transport feels like a strange (and slightly cruel) choice. Given McCoy’s well-known disdain for transporters, this should’ve raised a red flag at the design table. If this ornament had included a sound chip of him grumbling about “having his atoms scattered all over the galaxy,” it might’ve turned a questionable concept into a fan favorite. As it stands, it’s more ironic than iconic.

This ornament was designed and produced before my time. It always gives me a “if you know, you know” moment. I’m certain that the concept came from Star Trek fans on staff who thought it was a funny in-joke. My nod to that ornament was putting Dr. McCoy’s transporter complaints into the audio for the 2023 U.S.S. Enterprise tabletop decoration.
