The Best Photo You’ll See Today

You can’t buy this on Amazon. The “Hand of Apollo” Star Trek Christmas Ornament is only available from the Earth to Sky Store. On Aug. 15, 2024, it flew to the stratosphere onboard a cosmic ray research balloon, reaching an altitude of 107,117 feet above the Sierra Nevada mountains of central California.

This ornament depicts the iconic opening scene from original Star Trek series episode “Who Mourns for Adonais?” first aired in 1967.  Near the planet Pollux III, the Enterprise was held dead in space by a massive energy field shaped as a human hand. It belonged to a being claiming to be the Greek god Apollo.

The ornament floated in the stratosphere for 3 hours while radiation sensors inside the payload gathered data for the students’ radiation monitoring project. After the balloon exploded, as planned, the payload parachuted back to Earth, landing in the White Mountains overlooking Bishop, CA.

The ornament comes with a Christmas card showing the hand in flight, and certifying that it has traveled to the edge of space and back again.

Trekcore Reviews ‘The Keeper’ and ‘Nexus Damaged’ USS Enterprise-B

“While a more widely-available edition will arrive this October, the Enterprise-B made this year’s slate to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Star Trek: Generations… and I have to say, I am in love.” -Kelly Phillips, TrekCore.com

“The real standout for me is the texture of the Talosian robe. I was worried it may look a bit flat, based on the photo on the front of the box.”  -Kelly Phillips, TrekCore.com

FAKE Uhura Gold Up for Auction

It’s a fake!

Thanks for the info. I did not realize the ornament was painted, should in hindsight have looked closer. DUH. I pulled the auction and will destroy the fake one, I don’t want to have that out there in the universe. I wish I had noticed the spot earlier and not listed it at all. Sigh.
I bought these from a large estate sale and there were literally hundreds of ornaments. About 30 had boxes the rest did not. I didn’t realize there was a significant fake market or I would have done more digging and included more details. This site was the only yellow Uhura link I found. Thanks to someone emailing me in eBay I realized it was likely a painted one and immediately pulled the item. Fortunately none of the rest appear to be worth anything like this, just regular ornaments. Thanks to the collector who emailed me first asking for details and pointing out the paint.

Add some excitement to your holiday décor with this rareStar Trek Hallmark Uhura Ornament from 2009 and its original 2007 version too.  The ‘Gold’ Uhura ornament is one of only 450 produced for Comic-Con 2009 exclusively.

The Comic-Con exclusive is a Keepsake Ornament of Lt. Uhura wearing acommand-division gold uniform from the episode “The CorbomiteManeuver.” It is a repainted version of the 2007 limited edition Uhurafrom Keepsake Artist Anita Marra Rogers.
This sale includes both! Sadly, there is no original box for either, but the pictures are theactual items included in the auction.  Theyare in great condition and previously sold versions of the exclusive Goldversion have proven elusive and rare in the market.

How Does Hallmark’s ‘The Keeper’ Stack Up Against Star Trek: The Experience’s Talosian?

Hallmark’s The Keeper ornament has a clear height advantage, towering nearly 3/4” above his competitor. What Star Trek: The Experience’s Talosian lacks in height is made up in weight. The Talosian weighs in at a hefty five ounces more than the rookie upstart.

Ring the bell, already!

ROUND 1 (Eye hook placement)

An eye hook is fastened to the back of the Talosian’s neck and vanishes when the ornament is observed head on. A devastating hook to The Keeper’s head gives Talosian the first round.
Round 1 scoring: Talosian: 10, The Keeper: 9

ROUND 2 (Head details)

The head of the Talosian has a more bulbous shape and a closer depiction of what was on screen. Unfortunately, it is sloppily executed. In contrast, The Keeper’s less accurate oval shape is very clean and defined. After trading head shots, The Keeper wins the second round.
Round 2 scoring: Talosian: 9, The Keeper: 10

ROUND 3 (Necklace details)

Upon close inspection of the necklace, the Talosian’s paint technique is jarring. In contrast, The Keeper has clean, crisp lines and colors. Hallmark delivers an uppercut when it comes to the paint details.
Round 3 scoring: Talosian: 9, The Keeper: 10

ROUND 4 (Hand details)

The Keeper gets knocked to the canvas by a fierce left-right combination from the Talosian. The Keeper struggles to pull himself up off the mat due to his lack of hands.
Round 4 scoring: Talosian: 10, The Keeper: 8

ROUND 5 (Robe details)

The Talosian’s robe is very rudimentary. The Keeper sports the finest detail of any Star Trek ornament to date. This seemingly new manufacturing technique gives this robe its gorgeous texture. “DOWN GOES TALOSIAN! DOWN GOES TALOSION!”
Round 5: The Keeper delivers a knockout punch to the Talosian!
