Pros: A bold and compact design, the Defiant features fantastic detail and excellent balance. Its sleek, combat-ready profile is a refreshing break from the usual saucer-heavy fleet, and the lighting—subtle yet striking—really brings the ship to life on the tree.
Cons: Like many early ornaments, powering it can be tricky without a compatible light strand or a Legacy cord. And as expected, it’s not to scale with the rest of the Trek fleet—but for most collectors, that’s a welcomed scale for how sharp it looks on display.

Pros: An outstanding likeness, with excellent paint and detail that truly brings Spock to life. The retro command chair is a perfect touch, and including his iconic viewing scope is a detail that fans will appreciate. This ornament nails the vintage Trek vibe.
Cons: None! For a character ornament, this one checks every box. A logical—and essential—addition to any collection.

Pros: The likeness is passable, and while the pose may be a bit awkward, it still captures the essence of Riker—commanding, confident, and just a bit dramatic.
Cons: The “display base” is doing a lot of the work here. For better or worse, you’re getting as much rock as Riker. His stance—braced against it—calls to mind a horse scratching itself on a tree. It’s memorable… just maybe not for the intended reasons.

Pros: There’s just something extra satisfying about Star Trek ships rendered in die-cast metal—they feel solid, weighty, and built to last. Including a display base for year-round shelf life is a fantastic touch, and the addition of sound makes this a triple win for collectors.
Cons: The Galileo shuttle is impressively tiny. Its size makes it easy to overlook, and there’s a real risk it could be mistakenly left on a Christmas tree limb and accidentally tossed during post-holiday cleanup. Handle with care!

Pros: Kirk, seated in the Captain’s chair with his trademark thoughtful pose—chin in hand—is everything you’d want in a classic Trek ornament. Iconic, confident, and unmistakably Shatner.
Cons: The overhead wire hanger, a common design choice in the ‘90s, may be a turn-off for some collectors. It distracts slightly from the otherwise strong display and breaks the illusion a bit.

Pros: Picard runs a bit stocky here, but the likeness is still solid—instantly recognizable, with just enough detail to capture his commanding presence.
Cons: The tight, enclosed backdrop feels oddly cramped for someone used to commanding the spacious bridge of the Enterprise-D. One can’t help but imagine the good captain feeling a bit claustrophobic in his display niche. A figure like Picard deserves room to breathe.

City on the Edge of Forever Repair Video

This video shows my ham-handed, but successful repair of a Hallmark “Magic” ornament (one that plugs into the Christmas light string to get power). This ornament released in 2004, never worked very well, and for years didn’t work at all. Well, it lit-up, but wouldn’t play the audio. In this video, I show some slides that demonstrate the replacement of a capacitor, then my experimentation to finally learn that the audio segments only play properly after the ornament is plugged in for several minutes (to “warm up” before clicking the button to play the audio. I really don’t know why it needs this warm-up, but perhaps the capacitor is charging very slowly or something. I didn’t attempt to uncover the reason, but maybe someone with circuit theory knowledge knows. –sengsationa1

Additional information: There was a Star Trek Keepsake Ornaments Puzzle that teased the identity of this ornament leading up to its release.
Pros: If you’re a collector focused solely on starships, the Romulan Warbird brings some welcome variety. Its unique, sweeping design stands out among the fleet and adds visual contrast on the tree.
Cons: Unfortunately, the ship’s design doesn’t translate well to a holiday ornament. The combination of muted green tones, soft detail, and heavy texture makes it read more like a vague plastic blob than a majestic vessel. It had potential—but always feels like a missed opportunity.

Pros: Individually, these tiny ships don’t make much of a statement—but when paired with the 2001 Deep Space Nine ornament, they become something greater. Suspended from the station’s docking pylons, they transform into a dynamic mini display that celebrates the breadth of the Star Trek universe.
Cons: At this scale, detail takes a serious hit. The ships are more suggestive silhouettes than faithful miniatures, lacking the precision that fans expect. Great from a distance, but not built for close inspection.

Pros: A standout entry thanks to its striking paint job and impressive lighting. The deep greens and reds give it an authentic, battle-worn look, and when lit, it truly comes to life on the tree—aggressive, angular, and unmistakably Klingon.
Cons: As with all early pigtail ornaments, powering it can be a challenge. Finding compatible light strands is increasingly difficult, which can turn setup into a mini engineering mission. When it works, though, it’s glorious.

Pros: A graceful sculpt that captures the sleek curves of the Enterprise-D, and a welcome expansion into The Next Generation era. For many fans, it marked the beginning of a new frontier in the ornament series.
Cons: Unfortunately, the execution isn’t quite as smooth as the ship itself. The ornament tends to pitch up due to the weight of the power cord, making it hard to display level. On top of that, the lighting is disappointingly dim—more of a flicker than a feature.

Pros: This is the one that started it all—the very first Star Trek Hallmark ornament. A true milestone. For longtime collectors, it’s a must-have and a nostalgic anchor for any display.
Cons: The blinking red and green lights on the saucer section haven’t aged as gracefully. Instead of enhancing the design, they clash with the ship’s otherwise clean lines and subdued aesthetic. A little less “holiday disco,” a little more starship elegance would have gone a long way.
