Complete Line of 2023 Hallmark Star Trek Ornaments Available in Stores Friday

Kelly Phillips of TrekCore.com has posted a review of Data’s Ode to Spot which is available in stores now. Please visit Trek Core to read the entire review which includes photos and a video.
“Data has those striking gold android eyes and the precision brown haircut just as he should. Spot is painted beautifully in all her cuddly orange tabby cat glory.”

Well, that’s a very gracious review and one I’d not seen. Thanks for sharing this with the group. The reviewer raised a fair question that I’ll answer here. Kelly wrote:
“In a perfect world, I’d have loved for the ornament to include the whole poem. I don’t know if this was some kind of technical limitation or just a creative decision, but it’s a small demerit on what is otherwise a lovely ornament for my collection.”
Technical limitation or creative decision? Why not both? 🙂 There was a limitation on the ornament in that typically we use chips that can hold about 27 seconds of audio. (Some ornaments have bigger chips with greater capacities but those also carry higher MSRPs.)
And that’s where the creative decision came in. Myself, I regard the poem’s first four and final four lines as the most memorable:
Felis catus is your taxonomic nomenclature,
An endothermic quadruped, carnivorous by nature;
Your visual, olfactory, and auditory senses
Contribute to your hunting skills and natural defenses.I find myself intrigued by your subvocal oscillations,
A singular development of cat communications
That obviates your basic hedonistic predilection
For a rhythmic stroking of your fur to demonstrate affection.A tail is quite essential for your acrobatic talents;
You would not be so agile if you lacked its counterbalance.
And when not being utilized to aid in locomotion,
It often serves to illustrate the state of your emotion.O Spot, the complex levels of behavior you display
Connote a fairly well-developed cognitive array.
And though you are not sentient, Spot, and do not comprehend,
I nonetheless consider you a true and valued friend.Also recall that Data opens his recitation with an introduction, and later is interrupted by applause from Commander Riker, upon which Data comments. The whole thing runs close to two minutes long. To spare you the expense of time and money, I made the edits.
I hope it makes a fun addition to your tree and your collection.

Values below come from Hooked on Hallmark (HoH) and The Ornament Factory (OF) as of 9.11.23. Prices are based off ornaments in boxes listed in mint condition. Hooked on Hallmark and The Ornament Factory are not affiliated with this site. HallmarkStarTrekOrnaments.com does not resell any ornaments.
Hallmark branded ornaments (red box ornaments) typically can not be found for resell on ornament websites. They are listed below in blue and their prices are based off of the recent eBay sales.

A second Defiant ornament is available on eBay with an asking price of $2,499. Currently, there is another Defiant up in a bidding war that ends Saturday. That auction currently has a top bid of $961 with two days to go.

A 7-day auction brings us eBay’s first U.S.S. Defiant of 2023. The Defiant had a limited run of only 700 when it was released in 2011 and came with a glow-in-the-dark paint job. It quickly became one of the most highly sought after Hallmark Star Trek ornaments. The Defiant typically resells from $1,200-$2,000 when it shows up on the auction site. The eBay auction ends Saturday.

Images of the Hallmark Booth at SDCC show a display of the 2023 lineup of ornaments. The Hand of Apollo is in stores now and Data’s Ode to Spot which expected later this month. The other ornaments on display are due in stores in October: Badgey, “Relics”and U.S.S. Enterprise Tabletop. Also on display is the Enterprise/Delta metal ornament available the past two years as a Walmart exclusive. Not displayed were the Enterprise and Kirk miniature ornaments also due in October.

Hallmark has connected your favorite memories to iconic characters from movies, television, and comics in products for decades. Christine Taylor (licensing creative manager) and Kurt Gaulke (art director, keepsake ornaments) share a peek behind the curtain with this year’s Keepsake Ornaments, itty bittys plush characters, gift products, and more. Expect some sneak peeks, a Q&A, and a chance to win prizes!
There has been no confirmation that any Star Trek ornaments will be included in the sneak peeks but it had been common practice at SDCC pre-COVID.

If you visited your local Hallmark for the Ornament Premiere you may have noticed a lack of Datas and Spots on the shelves.
After exploring three stores worried that there had been a run on a synthetic intelligence android-lifeforms and their feline pets it seems the 2023 Data’s Ode to Spot ornament has been delayed to late July.
Supply-chain issues remain a thing, friends. I have been crossing my fingers for these to make it to stores in time for this very exciting weekend but it just wasn’t to be. I hope that those of you who already have made it to Hallmark Keepsake Ornament Premiere at least have had a chance to see and hear this ornament for yourself in person. Thanks for your patience!

“O Spot, the complex levels of behavior you display connote a fairly well-developed cognitive array.” A poetic musing to a beloved pet cat as only the android Data could compose—and then recite aloud to his “U.S.S. Enterprise” crewmates as seen in “Schisms,” an episode of “Star Trek: The Next Generation.” Add vivid verse to your holiday with this Christmas tree ornament that plays dialogue from the show (battery-operated).

I would like to thank Eric M. who sent in photos of a sixth version of Spock, Quog ornament packaging (2HCM2165) that was completely unknown to me. The box is dated 2018 and, like the other red boxes of that year, it features Spock’s head in the lower left corner of the packaging.
The cardboard packaging is most similar to 2018’s 2HCM4087 ornament but the vacuum-formed plastic is noticeably different with a portion specifically designed to house Spock’s right hand.

Below are the other versions of the Spock ornaments that ran from 2017 through 2019.
