I finally assembled my Star Trek holiday wreath with vintage Hallmark light-string powered ornaments. I had done a similar one a few years ago using the Hallmark Star Wars Storyteller spaceship ornaments that had just come out at the time using the compatible power cord tied to the back of the wreath to keep them lit. I then wanted to do a similar one with powered Star Trek ornaments that would stay lit like the Hallmark Midnight Wreath on which they were to be placed. The issue was how to power those old light-string powered ornaments. Those ornaments are not compatible with LED mini lights. Wrapping a compatible 50 or 100-light incandescent string around the wreath would look terrible, and shorter incandescent strings have the wrong voltage. So, the only solution was to pay the eBay scalpers their ransom for two of the long-discontinued Hallmark Legacy Cords that each can power up to four of those old ornaments. I finally did so this year. After wrapping eight pieces of 16 ga stem wire (used for flower arranging) around the metal wreath back and poking them through to the front to make ornament hangers (like I did with the Star Wars wreath) and tying the two legacy cords to the metal back as well, I could hang the ornaments and poke their cords through to the back to plug them in. Because the Legacy Cords and their sockets are so big, this wreath doesn’t really lay flat against a wall. So, I display it with a free-standing wreath holder. One bonus with this wreath is that unlike the Star Wars wreath, these ornaments are small enough to fit in the plastic wreath storage box still mounted on the wreath. No unboxing and boxing up these ornaments each holiday season. So glad to finally have a holiday wreath of my favorite franchise. –Michael Murgolo on Facebook
